History
Peter Smith & Sons pianos was opened in 1980 by Peter Smith at 54 George Street Paisley. Peter Smith was a time served piano tuner/technician who learned his trade at Wm Thomson & Sons pianos of Govan, near to where he grew up. After several years in partnership selling used furniture and pianos Peter decided to start his own company specialising in pianos only. At this point in his life Peter was married to Susan and had 5 children, all boys.
The business was mainly centred around used pianos in the early years with Peter engaging in both the trade and retail ends of the market. As the business grew so did his family and in May 1984 Peter was a proud father to his only daughter. Around this time his business direction also changed when he decided to move into the new piano market as well as continue with the used sector and he went on to establish his company as Scotland’s premier piano retailer.
Peter passed on the of 9th August 1992 and has been sadly missed. With his passing the business was continued by his sons and it was moved to a warehouse setting at 60 Back Sneddon Street Paisley, they have continued to grow their fathers business and currently stock in the region of 100 new and used pianos. Over the years Peter Smith & Sons have acted as agents for all the leading brands such as Steinway & Sons, Kawai, Yamaha, as well as Bentley and look forward to continuing these relationships in to the future.
